As we started updating the interior the bow stateroom was the one dark spot.

One of the biggest challenges with updating the bow stateroom was figuring out how to remove the headboard. We scoured the internet, viewed pictures, posted to forums, and talked to other boat owners to find out how to go about removing the headboard. We were unsuccessful at every turn. We were to the point of “covering the headboard with pillows” plan (which seemed to be the unanimous solution) when I decided to try one more time to figure it out. I love puzzles and creative challenges so with enough time, a few tools and my stubborn nature I finally found the answer.

First we removed the bow stateroom mattress, headboard and cushion. Once they were removed I took the mattress cover and cushion apart to create patterns for the new mattress and cushion. These two items required some sewing while the headboard was a simple recovering project.

The fabric we purchased was not wide enough to cover the entire mattress so two pieces needed to be sewn together. To match the designs, I folded over the edge of one piece of fabric and ironed it. Then using basting tape, I matched the designs on the top of the fabrics using the basting tape to hold everything into place while I sewed the two pieces together.

Once the two pieces were sewn together the fabric was large enough to cut out the mattress cover and cushion pieces.

Here is what we ended up with after sewing all the pieces together!
To complete it, I recovered the brown side pieces with the same fabric I used for the mattress cover, headboard, and cushion. Project complete! Time to move on to something else.
