Non‑boating season is our chance to catch up on projects. Over the years we’ve remodeled two bathrooms, replaced all the basement water lines with PEX, and tackled the various and sundry surprises that come with home ownership. This weekend we played with water again—just not on the boat. We finally replaced our drinking faucet.
A few years ago, we added a kitchen backsplash and wanted to swap out the brushed‑nickel faucets for bronze, so this update was long overdue. The project went smoothly with only a few minor hiccups, and thankfully we already had every tool we needed from past plumbing adventures.
Of course, it would not be a typical weekend at the Rannow’s if we did not try a new recipe. This weekend, we tried two recipes. One for potatoes, and one for ribs. Chris seasoned, sealed, and sous vide ribs at 153 degrees F for 24 hours. Then he took them out of the bag, dried them off, seasoned them again, lightly brushed on BBQ sauce and broiled them on high for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes until the BBQ sauce charred. To go with the ribs, we made Garlic-Parmesan Melting Potatoes from EatingWell and Brussels sprouts with parmesan cheese. Everything was delicious. We will definitely make it all again.
